Washington-Liberty High School is a state-of-the-art school that opened in 2005 in Arlington County, Virginia, one of the fastest-growing counties in the U.S. As rapid population growth began to stress the County’s high schools, Arlington Public Schools considered a variety of strategies to accommodate the student influx. One option included renovating the school to better utilize classrooms, open spaces, and other school support areas and expand its capacity from 1,900 to 2,200 seats.
Services
2RW conducted an analysis of Washington-Libert High School’s existing building systems to determine what MEP system updates would be required to support potential renovations. 2RW then provided MEP/FP engineering for the system updates and a new science lab. The design also incorporated new audio-visual and information technology systems throughout the building.
Results
The renovations expanded the school’s capacity by 300 seats while delivering a more-secure facility and enhanced audio-visual capabilities.
