Gilmer Hall was built in 1961 and underwent a major addition in 1987. The building contains administrative offices, classrooms, dry and wet research labs, library, and auditorium.

2RW provided MEP design for:

  • Nine biology research labs funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and National Center for Research Resources (NCRR) grants
  • A new greenhouse
  • Renovations to the research equipment spaces, the main auditorium, multiple biology/psychology research labs, classroom spaces, and the library

Retro-commissioning was performed on all systems to identify any deficiencies or required repairs. Specific strategies were presented for improving performance of the various building systems.

Results
  • The antiquated and inefficient systems were replaced with a modern, energy efficient systems.
  • Space utilization was maximized through efficient and flexible teaching and research laboratory designs.
  • Retro-commissioning identified equipment and systems that had reached the end of their service lives to reduce energy use and operating costs.
