On Tuesday, August 14th, 2RW’s Peter Mackey will present “Frederick County Middle School – A Model of Energy Efficiency” at USGBC Virginia’s monthly Charlottesville luncheon. The session is eligible for GBCI/USGBC and AIA continuing education credits.

In this session, Peter will describe the sustainable MEP and water/wastewater design strategies that helped the project achieve Net Zero Water and Net Zero Energy-ready status. The school consumed just 25.17 kBtu/SF of energy in the last 12 months—less than half the energy used by comparable schools.

Learning objectives for this presentation include:

  • Understanding the site water generation and wastewater systems that make this building a net zero water building
  • Understanding the energy reducing strategies that make this building net zero ready
  • Reducing HVAC energy usage through a hybrid ground source heat pump system
  • Understanding the benefits of integrated design/early engagement

Register for the event and lunch.
