UVa’s Scholarly Innovation and Excellence: Ivy Stacks & Alderman Library

University of Virginia‘s commitment to scholarly innovation and excellence has prompted several recent library renovations including the expansion and renovation of Ivy Stacks and Alderman Library.

Ivy Stacks has undergone several renovations over the years to meet UVa’s growing need of off-site storage. The latest expansion and renovation, undertaken in anticipation of the University’s Alderman Library renewal, doubled Ivy Stacks’ storage capacity, modernized systems, and provided an on-site reading room for researchers. Learn more about 2RW’s involvement in this and the original Ivy Stacks design.

The Alderman Library renewal will bring the library up to contemporary standards of safety, accessibility, usability, and service. The design is still under development, but project goals include sustainable engineering for all new building infrastructure, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, life safety, IT, and security; better utilization of space and adaptability for long-term collection growth; and restoration and optimization of historic characteristics. Follow the project at UVa’s Library News & Announcements.

Both projects will meet the University’s commitment to sustainability and are, at minimum, targeting LEED Certified.
