In 2017, UVA embarked on a major expansion of the Ivy Stacks library storage facility to support the University’s upcoming Alderman Library renewal. The update included the installation of state-of-the art MEP/FP systems which incorporated PV solar power generation. The new systems created an optimal preservation environment in which the facility benefits from improved environmental conditions with the lowest possible energy consumption. The University’s sustainability goal for this project was LEED Certified, but the state-of-the-art renewable energy production and optimized energy performance helped the project achieve LEED Silver certification.
